Memory is a child walking along a seashore. You never can tell what small pebble it will pick up and store away among its treasured things. ~Pierce Harris

Welcome to the Grassy Valley Antiques "official" blog. We are an antique and vintage marketplace located in the heart of Fountain City, TN. Our store is comprised of vendors who scour the globe for treasures, modern day pirates without the peg legs and scurvy. They hear the echoes of the past whispered by items that are vital and useful and not ready to be relegated to spend eternity in some dusty attic. You can read about some of our latest discoveries here, or you can come see for yourself. Who knows you may leave with a treasure of your own....

Blessed be the Child

I've be thinking about children a lot lately, especially since mine has been running circles around me in the store all week long.  There is only so much to occupy a five year old in a shop full of glass and other breakables!  Still, I love having Weston by my side and treasure each moment we spend together as other mothers have for centuries.  Today, I'd like to share a few trinkets from the days of yore in honor of all those mums who have rocked their sleeping babes wondering when their laps may no longer hold them.
The party ideas in "Parties for Children" are timeless and could be enjoyed by your little ones as they have been by others for many centuries.
I have enjoyed this pop-up Dr. Dolittle book with all of its colorful pictures and moving parts.  It is in remarkable condition and must have been handled by careful little hands!
These darling music boxes keep watch over the store in their matching nautical attire. Perfect for a nursery to lull baby to sleep with a sweet little song.
What kid doesn't love comics?  We have a large selection at Grassy Valley from Richie Rich to Sad Sack.  If it was popular in the Seventies or early Eighties it's probably here.
Whether you are shopping for a child or a child-at-heart, I'm sure you will discover something that brings a smile to your face!
